Farmer’s Barns
Another component of the property featuring the "Farmer's House" project was the restoration of two original buildings: a two-story wagon house and a three-story banked dairy barn. Both projects required extensive work—new foundations and structural repairs—but they also provided opportunities for sympathetic design interventions. In the wagon house, we added a large shed dormer to the south which, while not visible from the main driveway, opens up sweeping vistas of the Livingston Manor valley. When building a new "bridge house" connecting the bank barn to the upper grade, we added a second story that winds up to a towering cupola serving as an observation point. Both buildings have returned to their original purpose, as the farm once again raises dairy cows and grows crops.
